Top 5 Picnic Areas in Florence.

1. Le Cascine – Le Cascine is a park located just outside of the historic center where it offers a vast wilderness in the middle of city to relax in. Sitting along the Arno river, makes it a great picnic spot.  Many people use it as their own personal track for running or biking. Others lay a blanket down and enjoy the lazy afternoon under a tree with a book;
2. Bobolino – An area not many know about is Bobolino which starts at Porta Romana.  It is a widening road that leads to Piazzale Michelangelo.  Along the way up, there are benches where you can sit and enjoy a panino in the shade.  There is also a walking path in which you can see the other side of Florence.  Full of ville(villas) and astonishing views;
   
3. Giardino dell’Orticoltura – It has two entrances, one is Via Trento and the other is on Via Vittorio Emanuele.  The entrance of Via Trento is near my house which I think is the best entrance.  Since you get a panorama of the city.  There are grassy knolls where you can set up camp and do some yoga moves or relax as the clouds pass by;
   
4. Piazza Pitti – Piazza Pitti is not the most comfortable place to have a picnic but during those steaming summer nights, my friend and I would get a pizza to go and sit in front of the Palazzo Pitti.  We saw and met some interesting people as well as enjoyed each other’s company.  You will notice students go tanning on the front yard of the Palazzo Pitti in the summer as well.  It is also a common meeting ground, and
5. Boboli Garden – Boboli Gardens is the token picnic spot in the city where you are surrounded by brilliant sculptures and fabulous views of the Tuscan countryside.  There are millions of places to picnic in the gardens.  The only downside to this place, is that you must pay to enter.  It is worth it arriving early, exploring the gardens, then picking out your perfect picnic spot.
